Tata Motors testing hydrogen fuel cells for light trucks, buses

The Tata Nano might be famous for being the world’s cheapest car, we’re going to go out on a limb and say that, should Tata Motors bring the hydrogen fuel cell buses and light trucks they are apparently working on to market, they won’t get the same descriptor. Nonetheless, the Indian company is testing large fuel cell vehicles at its European Technical Centre and is “gain[ing] experience of how they actually work in operation,” John Richmond, group chief engineer of Tata Motors Europe, said, before the company makes a decision on production. So, it’ll be a while.

Tata has also shown off an all-electric Indica and has talked about a hybrid version of the Nano. Since 2007, Tata Group chairman Ratan Tata has been working on India’s National Hydrogen Road Map. Thanks to Roy B. for the tip!
